Top Advantages Of Copper Wiring

Copper wiring has been used for many years and in huge demand nowadays. With copper wiring, there are multiple advantages that you can obtain. If you are planning to have copper wiring in near future, it should be on the top list. Read the article to know about the top advantages of picking copper wiring.

Newage Cable

Best Conductor

Out of all the different wires and metals available in the market, copper wire cable is the best conductor. You can get more power in copper than any other option. This makes it competent and helps you get the job done efficiently than ever.

Flexibility

While using an electrical wire, always ensure that it needs to be flexible. When you wire something in a house, you will most likely have to bend the wire around several different things. You might have to go into risky angels to set it as per requirements. This flexibility increases the demand for copper wire as compared to others.

High Melting Point

If you are concerned about safety, copper wire is the best choice to go with. If a surge or overload comes through the wire, it will not melt or burn. This concludes that your odds of a fire starting as a result of a power problem are going to be decreased.

Doesn’t Loosen

If you have copper wiring in your home, you are less likely to fix it. Material other than copper can sometimes loosen where they are connected. This can cause some risky conditions and wastes a lot of time fixing everything.

Avoid Incompatibility Issues

Most of the electrical equipment and appliance manufacturers specify that copper wire is used in their products. If you don’t have copper wiring in your home walls, this can lead to an incompatibility issue in the future. If you ever try to adjust a non-copper wire up to a copper wire, it could cause a galvanic action.

Newage Cable

Easy To Work With

Most electricians prefer copper wiring as it is easy to work with. You can strip it easily, pull it through tight spots, and not have to worry about surface oxides forming over it. So we can say that copper wiring is the best choice for building wiring.

Some Common Electrical Issues Everyone Must Know

All electrical issues can be risky. They don’t only affect the appliances but also risky for human life and property as well. Problems such as flickering lights and high electricity bills indicate electrical problems. Let’s have a look at some common electrical issues and their solutions.

cable

Poor Circuit Protection / No RCCB

Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) is a device that detects and secures low voltage circuit if there is a current leak. It disconnects the load from the main supply when the circuit has a residual current.

Solution: Install an RCCB as it protects against direct and indirect currents, shocks, and electrical fire.

Grounding Issues

  • No GFCI Installed

GFCI breaks the circuit if there is a difference between incoming and outgoing currents. Without GFCI, there are chances of overheating electrical wires, shocks, burns, or an electrical fire.

Solution: Get GFCI installed if you don’t have it already.

  • Undergrounded Connections

These connections don’t have a grounding system as an added failsafe. It provides a path for extra current to flow in case of a short circuit.

Solution: Make sure that all connections are grounded and you have a proper grounding system.

Electrical Shocks

You may have electrical shocks when you turn on or off an appliance. Even if the shocks are mild, it is a sign that the appliance has an electrical issue that needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Solution: You can plug in another device and notice if you face the same problem. If the results are reproducible, contact a professional electrician without thinking twice.

Electrical Surges

Electrical surges usually happen due to poor electrical house wiring, faulty appliances, or damaged power lines. These are common electrical problems as they last for a split second. In case of frequent surges, they can damage the equipment and reduce its lifetime.

Solution: Check your electrical connections that connect the device to the home grid. Disconnect the poor quality power boards or devices from the outlet. The surge should stop, if they don’t stop, you must contact an electrician.

Overloading

The light fixture you may be used for high watts such as bulbs or other fittings could be designed for low voltage. This violates the code, increasing the risk of wire insulation and socket melting due to the high from the bulb.

cable

Solution: Fit the right watt bulb to the right fixture. If you are not sure about the wattage the fixture can handle, it is safe to use a 60-watt or smaller bulb.

Premium Quality Industrial Control Cable

Industries such as construction, transport, and communications are rapidly growing over time. Each part that contributes to these sectors is equally important and goes for industrial control cables as well. All equipment used in these sectors needs to be high-quality and full-functional. It will ensure that there are no faults when it comes to machines that might become an essential part of the day to day life.

all wire and cable

Industrial Control Cable Uses

Cable and electric control wire are used in all applications that are involved with electricity. These are designed to interconnect equipment and control signals when used for specific purposes as flexible cable wire.

There are numerous types of control cables and each one is relevant to the requirements. In an environment where there is light stress on the cable and in moist or dry conditions, these cables will take the pressure. A telecommunication cable can be like this.

Similarly, there are other kinds of industrial control cable that are used in applications where there is a need for equipment which will work without any interference. Such cables take high pressure and are installed with multiple cores and tinned copper wire braids that will defend the control cables from external electromagnetic pressure.

Some of the sturdy cables come with galvanized round steel wires or galvanized flat steel strips that make them compatible with the hardest applications. However, all wire and cable equipped with plain copper conductors and AC voltage rating up to 1100 V and DC up to 1500 V. They are also armored with a covering of PVC compound to achieve strength. Standard checks and rigid tests ensure that every industrial cable that is available in the market can adapt to the application and take the pressure that is applied to it.

Conductor Material Used In Overhead Power Lines

A conductor is one of the most imperative components of overhead lines. Choosing the right conductor for overhead lines is as necessary as choosing the economic transmission voltage and conductor size. However, a conductor should have the following properties:

  • High electrical conductivity
  • Lower weight per unit volume
  • High tensile strength to resist mechanical stresses
  • Relatively lower cost without compromising much of other properties
newage cables

Conductor Materials

Initially, copper was the preferred material for overhead conductors. But, now aluminum has replaced copper as it is cost-effective and lightweight than the copper conductor of the same resistance. The following materials are considered to be good conductors.

Copper

Copper has high conductivity and greater tensile strength. Therefore, copper is a hard-drawn stranded form is the best option for overhead lines. It has a high current density and a relatively smaller cross-sectional area. Due to its higher cost and non-availability, copper is rarely used for overhead power lines.

Aluminum

Aluminum has 60% conductivity of copper; that means, for the same resistance, the diameter of an aluminum conductor is about 1.26 times than copper conductor. The tensile strength of aluminum is less than copper. Considering cost, conductivity, tensile strength, and weight, aluminum is preferred over copper.

Cadmium-copper

Cadmium copper alloys contain approximately 98 to 99% and up to 1.5% of cadmium. An additional 1% of cadmium to copper increases the tensile strength by up to 50%. These conductors are helpful for exceptionally long spans. However, due to the high cost of cadmium, such conductors may be unaffordable in many cases.

Other Materials

Some other metals and alloys conduct electricity. Silver is more conductive than copper, but due to its high cost, it is not helpful in many cases. Galvanized steel may also be used as a conductor. Although, steel has high tensile strength, and these conductors are not suitable for transmitting power. High strength alloys such as phosphor-bronze may also be used sometimes in extreme conditions.

Copper Wires – All You Know About Its Types, Uses, And Popularity

With the advent of electromagnet and telegraph, copper has been used as a common commodity in several electrical applications. Its demand increased when the copper wire cable was used as an electrical conductor, and with time, it became an essential component in power generation and transmission systems.

cable copper wire

Copper is a crucial metal that is used for electrical wiring in industrial and domestic use, electronic circuitry, home appliances, telecommunications, and many other areas. It is assessed that half of all copper mined is used to generate electrical copper wire and cable conductors.

Types Of Copper Wires

Copper wires are available in the following types. Today, copper wire manufacturers generate them as per application usage and therefore categorized in different sections.

Standard Wire

When many thin copper wires are twisted together, it is known as copper standard wire. It has high electrical conductivity and is used where there are fluctuating electrical loads and mostly found in industrial applications.

Solid Copper Wire

A single copper wire, sheathed or bare, in an insulating cover can be used to transfer electricity. This type of wire is called a soil copper wire and used in domestic applications.

Cables

When copper wires are twisted, woven, or braided into a single assembly, we get a copper cable. Such kind of cables is used in industrial applications and electrical appliances.

Why Copper Is Important?

Copper has outstanding chemical and physical properties that turn it into a widely used conductor in many of the heating and electrical appliances. Let’s dive into some of them:

 Electrical and Thermal Conductivity

Copper is a non-precious metal with the best electrical and thermal conductivity. As compared to aluminum, copper wire has minimum resistance to thermal and electrical conduction. Therefore, they are used in lightning rods for safety measures in buildings.

Great Tensile Strength

Copper has great tensile strength and can resist numerous mechanical failures like necking, stretching, breaks, etc. It is one of the major reasons why copper is used instead of aluminum.

Creep Resistance

When a metal expands and contracts under certain cyclic load conditions, the resultant deformation is known as creep.  Copper has a negligible creep compared to aluminum. From available conclusions, aluminum has a creep rate of 0.022% per 1000 hours under stress if 26 N/mm2 at an ambient temperature of 200C. Copper has 0.022% but the temperature must be as high as 1500C. Copper exhibits insignificant creep rates and therefore it’s an ideal meatal to be used in a copper wire.

Everything about the Electrical Service Panel: Guide for Homeowners

An electrical service panel is a connection between the internal electrical wires of the home electrical system and external wires coming from the street. It is the central distribution point that connects the service wire to exit wires. These home electrical panels are generally kept far away from household activities. Their location includes a garage, hallway leading to the garage, basement, and closet.

electrical house wiring

You can find your electrical service panel by locating the service head and service drop on your roof. Mostly, the service panel should be directly below, in one of the home’s stories. If the power lines are hidden, the line will start on the street and connect to the home from the front or side of the house.

Types Of Electrical Service Panels

Main Breaker Panel

It controls the electricity that goes to different areas of your house. It can be used to cut the power to your house including circuit breaker. They are classified based on the number of circuits they can handle and their amperage.

Main Lug Panel

These panels use lugs and the line wires run into these lugs. They feature the main breaker as the separate disconnect at the meter. You can attach the main plug lung to the breaker at the main panel where the central lug panel operates as a sub-panel.

Fuse Boxes

Fuses boxes are specially designed to prevent circuit overload. These are consist of small fuses that can fit into an electrical panel. The fuse will short out in case of excessive flow of current.

Sub Panel

These are ideal for houses where you need multiple circuits in the same area. The sub-panels get their power from the main panel through a circuit. They don't have dedicated disconnects and enable you to adjust the current distribution throughout the house.

Transfer Switches

These are perfect for circuits where a backup power generator is used. It works by transferring the generator power to electrical power through the panel. There are two main types of transfer switches, manual and automatic.
